The Tree of The Knowledge of Good and BadHave JWs got it correctly?
by Kalos inas for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.
(genesis 2:17).
jws interpret this tree as the symbol knowledge of good and bad, right of god to set standards for us; hence eating of it means snatching gods right to rule over usthus self-rule means ruination and death, and conversely gods rule means blessings and eternal life.. this interpretation has some intrinsic problems!.

Thanks guys, I couldnt formulate a reasoned answer when I read the OP, I just knew it was pap.
I am constantly amazed at how the believing brain appears to function.

It's a cult, he's a cult leader, Only wack jobs need apply for the TV front man position.
My hope is that they keep it on the shitty end of the spectrum and put off as many who tune in as possible. So good work so far chaps.

Out of their own mouths they condemn themselves. F'ing hypocrites...
I used to get annoyed when they announced new building or expansion programs for about 7 years ahead, I knew then the end wasnt coming any time soon and they all knew it.

Can I block tv.jw.org from my internet?
by Emily24 inmy spouse and i have not been to the meetings in about 10 years.
recently i have noticed a very very strong push from my spouse's family.
they have been sending jw shit in the mail all the time.

If you do go the blocking rout, you should try using QoS to make it slow and unusable - a frustrating experience is more effective than an outright block.
True dat, make it really slow so that videos are just annoying to try and watch on those sites.

Looks like you can do it on the router with parental control options:
However you are at the mercy of the tech so...

If you get no joy then look for a router that allows you to do what you want to accomplish.

Whatever happened has a lesson for us!
by Kalos inwhen my dad left jws, his stoic remark was: it was not a total wastage; after all i learned something good about the witnessestheir resolve to continue with their original claim that they are the appointed channel of god, even when they know in their heart of hearts that they are not.
why cant i imitate that sort of resolve in doing something worthwhile?
he thus echoed confucius who said: to be wronged is nothing unless you continue to remember it.. a poor choice we made, some obstructions or some resistance are almost always viewed with fear and anxiety.

Whenever i see thread titles like this one I always have "cult recruitment drive" flash thru my mind. The OP did little to change that view.
Edit: oh look what i found... http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/285113/1/Three-Types-of-People-and-Their-Destinies
Take your cult activities elsewhere

Does the bible have a central theme? Does it prove inspiration?
by GreenhornChristian indoes the bible have a central theme?.
there seems to be a general consensus throughout christian religions that there is a consistent theme throughout the bible.
the seeming evidence of a theme coming from a collection of books written by over 40 different authors over a period of 1500 years is what givse credence to the claim that the bible is an inspired literary work.

Nope. Your view is too simplistic and seeks to confirm your bias.
Have a read of Karen Armstrongs The Bible - The Biography for starters.
Until you know how why and when it was written and then how it ended up as the work you know today you are only ever going to get it wrong.
Edit: Sorry I obviously missed the paragraph about helping your pastor friend and your views not being the same, so i jumped the gun.
Two words: Redaction, rewritten.
Is he saying God guided that part, but not the original? Note; we have no original.
